Shadow Teachers
A trained adult beside your child, inside a regular classroom.
Trained shadow teachers help your child learn with confidence in a regular classroom.
The role
What happens in the classroom
A shadow teacher works alongside the class teacher for the school day, so your child can learn in the same room as their classmates.
A shadow teacher does
- Helps your child stay with the lesson and the task in front of them
- Keeps routines predictable: arrival, transitions between subjects, breaks
- Supports social moments at play time and lunch
- Writes a short daily note for you and the class teacher
- Works towards the goals set with your child's therapists
A shadow teacher doesn't
- Replace the class teacher or teach the lesson
- Provide therapy. That stays with our licensed therapists
- Do your child's work for them
- Make decisions about your child without you
How we prepare our teachers
Trained at BrightPath Academy, supervised by our therapists
- 1
Understanding special needs
A BrightPath Academy course on how children with different needs learn, communicate and regulate in a classroom.
- 2
English and language skills
Classroom English and language support, so teachers can work in bilingual and international settings.
- 3
Supervision by our OT and psychologist
Each placement has goals set by our therapists, who check in with the teacher and adjust the plan as your child progresses.
Matching process
How a teacher is matched to your child
One coordinator stays with you from the first message, and speaks to the school on your behalf.
- 1
Contact
Tell us about your child and their school on LINE, by email or through the form.
- 2
Assessment
Our team meets your child and reads existing reports to understand the support needed in class.
- 3
School match
Not enrolled yet? We introduce MOU partner schools. Already enrolled? We talk to your child's school.
- 4
Placement
We match a trained teacher to your child and agree with the school how the first weeks will run.
- 5
Review & long-term plan
We review progress regularly with you, the school and therapists, and plan the next year.
Where our teachers work
- Hang Dong
- Mae Rim
- San Sai
- City centre
Languages
- Thai
- English
- Chinese
Tell us the language your child uses at home and at school. We match for both where we can.
For schools
Partner schools sign an MOU with us
If your school wants to accept a child who needs support in class, an MOU sets out who does what, so your teachers aren't left to work it out alone.
School partnership form →Trained staff
A shadow teacher who has completed BrightPath Academy training, placed with the student in your classroom.
Coordination with therapists
Our OT, psychologist and other specialists share classroom goals with your teachers and the family.
Daily logs
A short written log each day, shared with the class teacher and parents, so nobody is guessing how the day went.
Questions
What parents ask us
How long until a teacher is matched?
It depends on what your child needs and on the school timetable. We tell you the expected start date once the assessment is done.
Who pays the teacher?
We go through costs with you at the consultation, before anything is agreed.
Can the teacher work with my child's therapist?
Yes. If your child sees a BrightPath therapist, they set the classroom goals with the shadow teacher. If you use an outside therapist, we can coordinate with them with your permission.
What if the match isn't right?
Tell your coordinator. We review the placement with you and the school and, if needed, match a different teacher.
Do you work with international schools?
We work with schools that hold an MOU with BrightPath. If your child already attends a school, ask us and we will contact them.
